Bursley Ware Vase by Horace Wain – Charlotte Rhead Interest
A collectable vase designed by Horace Wain for Bursley Ware in the 1920s. Wain worked alongside Charlotte Rhead as a designer for the pottery (Charlotte’s father Frederick was their art director), and the two collaborated occasionally, with pattern 1289 being the most notable. I’ve added a picture of a wall plaque in that pattern – Charlotte designed the outer section, and Horace Wain the inner well – and this is the same pattern found on this vase. NB: This listing is for the vase only, not the wall plaque! The pattern features hand-painted flowers and a bird in the oriental manner, on a black ground with gilt decoration around the neck.
The vase stands approx. 14cm tall, with a width of 7.5cm
Very good condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration.
