Charlotte Rhead Crown Ducal 4298 Wall Plaque (Alternative Colours) 36cm
A rare example of a Charlotte Rhead pattern (4298) for Crown Ducal, dating from the mid 1930s. This wall plaque is an alternative colour version of the more common Orange Chain pattern (and also 4100 Green Chain), a tube-lined design of interlocking comma shapes on a mottled fawn ground. This example, although marked ‘4298’, has the outline of the commas enamelled in yellow and orange, as opposed to the usual versions where the inner sections are coloured. Facsimile Rhead signature to the reverse side, along with the decorator’s mark of Lily Eardley. The plaque has two holes for wall hanging and measures circa 14″ (36cm) in diameter.
Good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is a small hairline to the reverse side (see photo) – this doesn’t appear on the front facing side of the plaque. Age related crazing and the enamel on some of the commas as ‘bubbled’ over time – again, see photos.
