Charlotte Rhead Wood & Sons Cosy Pot – Pattern 722
A Charlotte Rhead ‘Cosy Pot‘ for Wood & Sons, dating from circa 1920. It features a pâte-sur-pâte design of stylised fruit in a basket, with foliate scrolls, on an ivory and mustard ground. I haven’t come across this pattern before and it is not mentioned in the Bumpus books – the tube-lined pattern number on the base is 722, along with the number ’25’ , together with the standard printed Wood & Sons / Cosy patent details. I’ve attributed it to Charlotte rather than Frederick Rhead, given its similarity to the 268 pattern for Bursley Ware and the 4103 pattern for Burgess and Leigh, both of which are Charlotte’s.
The pot stands approx. 18cm tall.
Good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
